ITV

ITV is the UK's largest commercial public service broadcaster, offering a range of programmes from news and current affairs to drama and entertainment.  ITV's core public purposes are centred on a commitment to offering viewers high levels of programmes made in the UK for the domestic audience, particularly drama, and high quality and trustworthy network and regional news and current affairs.  ITV plays a crucial role in delivering plurality of news, in offering the only commercially funded regional services.

As part of ITV's commitment to UK origination we seek to serve viewers with programmes that are made all over the country, not only for broadcast at regional level but with a mix of programmes made in the regions for the national audience, such as Coronation Street in the North West or Doc Martin in the South West.  This ensures that ITV is relevant and engaging and provides our viewers with a strong sense of identity with the channel.

As we move into the digital world, ITV is looking to offer news ways to offer content to viewers.  ITV broadcasts a family of digital TV channels that cater for a variety of tastes and interests: from ITV2 with entertainment aimed at a younger audience, through classic drama on ITV3, ITV4 featuring a mix of imported quality drama and sport to a dedicated children's channel, CiTV.

In 2007 ITV will launch a new on-demand broadband service at www.itv.com enabling viewers to catch up with ITV programmes and access the ITV archive when they want, as well as offering behind the scenes information and exclusives.  The site will enable viewers to participate with and engage with programmes more fully.  We will also be building on ITV's regional heritage by offering content at a more local level through the ITV Local broadband service, rolling out across the UK this year. The service will offer news and information at local level, as well as enabling users the opportunity to share content and ideas.
