Through its Royal Charter,
BFI is committed to promoting understanding and appreciation of the arts of film and television. This remit is articulated through the aims of the Charter for Media Literacy: to enable people to choose, access, understand, create moving image material in ways that help them participate fully in twenty-first century life. We do this by encouraging people to access both their moving image heritage, through the
BFI National Archive, and film material from all over the world. Our Education department contextualises film for audiences, and creates opportunities to learn about film face to face, and online.
